Friday, August 1st, 2008To coincide with the Edinburgh International Festival, Cloudhouse gallery is delighted to host international artist Alexandra Warren’s first exhibition in Scotland.
Alexandra’s vibrant paintings promise to make quite a splash in the Scottish Borders and hopefully will add some colour to the so far rather dreary summer.
The talented painter was born in New York but spent most of her childhood growing up in Greece. And the colours, the light and motifs of the Greek islands are still very much evident in her paintings today.
Alexandra paints in oil on large canvases and the texture of the actual paint is very important for her, with many layers of paint making up the final painting. Her work is figurative but non-representational, but her subjects are always real persons to her, the all-important colours representing particular aspects of the person’s character or emotional state.
Be seduced by the sheer scale and of her work and the joyfulneess of her colours !
