About Jackie Selcraig, aka Gracie J

graciej.jpgI live in the Scottish Borders right in the middle of no-where. Imagine; rolling hills, sheep-dotted fields, huge skies full of movement and colour - it truly is an inspiring part of the world. My surroundings, both day and night, are reflected in my work.

All my designs have a celestial theme – the sky here at night, without light-pollution, is literally over-crowded with stars and constellations hence; orbit, venus, moonrock. The beads I use are ceramic and either glazed or dipped in silver, copper or 24-carat gold and threaded onto finest quality leather. Each piece I make, by hand, here in the Borders.

We all enjoy receiving a beautifully presented gift and the felt I use to line my boxes creates something really special and unique. Most of the wool I use comes from my neighbour Claudia’s Jacobs Sheep (Jessie and Marigold). It is lovingly hand-felted to make these little works of art - an image of the incredible landscape and beautiful colours which I see every day. The perfect complement to my jewellery.

My Signature Piece - Orbit Neck

Orbit-Neck-1.jpgThis is the neck piece that kicked the whole Gracie J business off. I still get stopped by strangers to ask where I bought this necklace.

If you’re looking for something daring and different then the orbit range is for you. The simple design and versatility make these pieces must-haves in your collection. Wear it short with a vest top or work attire or wear it long over a poloneck or evening dress. Different colours, different styles. Smart, casual, glam - it works any which way.

Match with an orbit arm piece, orbit rock arm piece or a pair of orbit earrings.

How to wear
Place round your neck and have one long and one short end
Twist the longer end once or twice round your neck
Tuck both ends in (under one side and over the other fixes it in place)
Move beads to desired spot
Apply lippy and get out there sister!

Gracie J jewellery can be purchased at Cloudhouse. More fab designs at www.graciej.co.uk

Each month we will feature one of the many talented artists whose work we exhibit or sell at Cloudhouse.
